Elementary Teacher
I graduated with honors from Westville High School in 1989. After waiting several years I attended Northeastern State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, and I just recently added a Pre-K certification.
I attend all professional development workshops provided by Colcord Elementary. I am especially interested in learning about building successful readers. I want to be able to reach every student in my classroom and to give them the confidence to carry them through elementary, middle school, high school and college.
I have been a Hornet Fan for nineteen years. Most of that time has been spent teaching first grade. It is such a joy to watch the kids learn to read. It is so neat to see how far the progress during the year. In first grade we focus on Reading and Math skills. I also teach Spelling, Science and Social Studies.
Before accepting a teaching position with Colcord Elementary, I worked with the Oklahoma Parents As Teachers Program. This program gave me extensive training in the development of young children, especially ages 0-3.
I have a beautiful daughter that is going to NSU. She is studying to be a Pre K or Elementary Teacher. She has blessed me with three beautiful grandchildren. Trenton will be fifteen this year. He loves football, weightlifting, video games and the idea of driving. Then there is Autumn, she is my bookworm. She loves reading and is currently learning how to sew. And that leaves Kenneth, he will be three in September. He loves playing outside and anything with water. He has mastered spraying his Nana with the water hose.
I have been married to Brian for seven years. We live in Twin Oaks, Oklahoma. I love planting flowers. We have several different kinds in our yard. I planted pumpkins this year for Kenneth. Pumpkins are one of his favorite things.
During the school year, preparing for my class takes up most of my time. I am constantly looking for new ways to teach skills. I also love sewing and crafting. This year I have spent a lot of time learning more computer skills. I am still learning so I hope my parents will be patient.
